MEET THE TEAM
At Matchbook, we believe in showcasing the craft and skill that roasters bring to the table. More often than not, roasters hide under the umbrella of a larger company or brand, and we want to honor the hard work and unique approach that individual roasters bring to the coffee community.
We were also struck by how independent record labels find, create, and distribute material from new artists. Along with being coffee nerds, we also love music, and we found a lot of parallels to our vision for coffee roasters and how music labels operate. So we decided to model our company after a record label--we find roasters we want to work with, we give them all the tools they need to roast an excellent coffee, and we distribute it to friends and coffee enthusiasts alike. Our goal is to give roasters a voice and allow them to express their skills and creativity through an individual release of a coffee of their choice.
Matchbook is a collection of coffee pros who like working together and drinking great coffee. Dani and Izzy began working with each other years ago, and have been deeply involved in the roasting and coffee scene in the Bay Area.
Dani Goot // Co-Founder
It’s possible that Dani has been making coffee longer than you have been able to say the word “coffee.” Dani has worked in almost every aspect of the coffee world, from barista to roaster to his current job as Head of Coffee Strategy & Business Development at Bellwether Coffee, and board member for the Roasters Guild of America. Dani is usually the person in the room with the most tattoos. Dani’s love for music is vast but roots itself in the 90’s hardcore punk era, and has been the most influential when creating music. Although his fashion and music influences are of the past, he pushes to discover new and exciting things in coffee.
Izzy Fraire // Co-Founder
Izzy found himself in the Bay Area from Southern California when he was 18, and has been quietly roasting coffee for the last 8 years. As a self-proclaimed behind-the-scenes guy, Izzy has been happiest standing near the heat of a UG22 Probat in solitude. Izzy’s relationship with music is temporal—bands like Nirvana and Yo La Tengo evoke memories of a particular time and place, and he can track the movement of time through these bands. Along with roasting coffee, Izzy is good at driving a forklift, but bad at sports and looking natural. He’s usually hiding behind something.
LINDSEY SHEA // Head Of Design & Social Media
When Lindsey was five, she wanted to be an Oscar-winning President that traveled to the moon. While there’s still plenty of time for her to reach her goals, for now she’s the one responsible for making our roasters look good in pictures. Lindsey has been making coffee for the last eight years, and enjoys taking non-boring (ie: not latte art) pictures of coffee. Although Lindsey doesn’t play an instrument, she’s an avid concert attendee—ask her what she’s doing this weekend and it probably involves seeing a show. She secretly dreams of being a drummer in a garage girl band, so go ahead and add that to her list of career aspirations.
ASHLEY RODRIGUEZ // Writer & Collaborator
Ashley started making coffee after she quit her job one summer afternoon drinking beers with a friend in Brooklyn. After her friend proclaimed he was going to work in a coffee shop, she followed suit. Fast-forward seven years, and she’s an editor for Barista Magazine. Ashley loves being interviewed and guessing people’s birth order (she’s the eldest child). She has a list of the top ten Billy Joel songs hanging in her closet.
